Description: Focusing on the steel from “ladle (or cradle) to gate”, this session will give you the scoop on the world’s most versatile building material. Starting at the cradle, we will explore the two predominant steel making techniques employed in the US and their impacts on our environment – the story is not as bad as you envision. Next we will focus on the products that result from these processes, including ASTM A913, a specification for higher strength wide-flange beams. And finally we will visit the “gate” and explore the innovations and what’s next for the steel industry in our ever changing world as well as tools that can help in design of your next project.
